A: A properly designed fixture puts 100 watt or greater Bulbs evenly over the entire play surface. Over an 8" table there should be Three 100 watt bulbs with at least 40" between the end bulbs. The light fixture also needs to hang no more than 36" above the table (to bottom of shade) surface to avoid glare when shooting.
Q: Why can't I use standard recessed lighting, ceiling fan light, or some other type of lighting?
A: None of those lights are specifically designed for pool tables. Even high wattage recessed lights will not eliminate shadows or even adequately light the table for play. High wattage lights that are too high, or grouped together like a ceiling fan will create long shadows at the ends of the table. Even light fixtures that say "Pool" or "Billiards" are just modified kitchen island lights and will not take 100 watt bulbs nor do they have 40" between the end bulbs.
